Since people are pretty wound up about a lot of the maps getting removed from the global list being good maps, it seems that in a lot of the contested cases the issues are quite minor but have a big impact on gameplay.

It is usually expected for the original mapper to update the map in order for it to be re-evaluated, and in some cases other people decide to update it with permission from the creator.

I don't know if there are enough people who are willing to get into fixing these maps, but if there are I think it could be useful to require any new submissions to come with the mappers approval for anyone who the testing team deems fit to alter the map and submit for re-evalutaion, as long as a note of this is left within the map.

This might be entirely useless if mappers aren't interested in the work of updating old maps, but fixing someone elses map without permission is generally looked down upon.

    Thoughts?

I'm confused. Why do this to only the new maps but not the old? It's partially map testers job to give feed back so I feel like that's already covered on the newer maps side. A small issue I see is some older maps that are very well made have some skips or certain jumps that cause un-fun gameplay. Because these maps are global, small updates are generally frowned upon as it's a whole bunch of work to get it uploaded, and the maps switched.

I mean I'd love for someone to fix the old map, I am just under the impression that a lot of people are scared away from it due to "having" to get permission to do so.

I might be wrong and that people just don't care enough to put in the work, which I guess is part of the question I'm asking.

This would just be a nice seamless thing that could be implemented which could be useful a year+ from now if the standards increase even further (which I hope they do).

I dont see why I'd need permission to fix a skip on a map if the mapper doesnt care enough to do it himself. Changing the layout of the map or any other things i'd understand that i need permission for that. But if the mapper doesnt care enough to fix a skip or certain jumps himself, which usually only takes 5 mins anyways, then why not let other mappers do it.

Some people dont want others to mess with their shit - atleast not without getting permission first.
