What do you think of making an official KZ Climb approved map list. The maps on there will be checked for high-quality, no game-breaking skips, high fun value, etc. Then, unapproved maps will not be listed in the map nominations list.

The pros I see of this is that it might make KZ Climb servers more enjoyable for everyone since unfun/low quality maps won't be played. It could also start a trend of other servers following this too, and then all future maps will be high-quality too since map makers won't want their map to be unapproved.

The cons I see of this is that our server will simply have less maps than other server (assuming that other servers keep their map list up-to-date)

    What do you guys think?

Not sure its needed tbh, after some time people will know which maps are bad/not fun and just not vote for them on rtv anyway.

but Bad maps that aint voted can be removed from the maplist and nomination.. It makes the rank system ezier for player to reach higher ranks.. less points needed..

I don't really think it's necessary, as a lot of classic maps have a lot of shortcuts. Literally every ported map has a ton of skips due to mostly jump heights varying from game to game, or poorly placed invisible walls (sukblock comes to mind immediately). A map being fun is also really subjective, I personally think stage maps are boring since it's just memorization and repetition to drill the route into your head over and over until you're crisp on it, however I know a lot of people that don't like long maps like I do.

Alternatively; choose to either make it mandatory for a map to be tested before it will be added (if you're in contact with the creator before it is published), or have some people download the map from the workshop and test it locally for obvious shortcuts. If there are any, contact the map maker and ask for them to be fixed before it is added to the server.

I don't think it would change it much, it would just mean that to climb ranks you'd need to get really good times on the limited maps that there are.

Just have people play/test maps before adding them to the official servers.

I've given this a bit more thought, and here's my vision for this approved map list idea:

    • KZ Climb website will host a Maps section, with overview of every single approved map with download link
    • All maps will be hosted on Steam Workshop using Map Collections feature
    • The Map Collection will be public on KZ Climb website, along with mapcycle.txt and maplist.txt for server admins so their servers will always be up-to-date.
    • KZ Climb servers (along with others) will switch to using the Workshop system with the Map Collections. The advantages of this is that a) world record will 100% be enabled on all maps due to the way KZTimer works, b) there will be no more missing .bsp error since Workshop works that way, c) map makers can now simply update their map on Workshop and all servers will get it, the map maker doesn't even need to rename the map to _v2 or _fix under Workshop.
    • KZ Climb website will provide an easy tutorial for server admins to switch to Workshop system.
    • We can give easy feedback to map makers, and make sure that all maps are good quality ones
What are your thoughts on these? Thanks

Really great idea in my opinion. This way, no one will have wrong versions of maps or not working ones! I can see this beeing the start of of maybe a community mapmaker Challenge where in a given time the best map will win smth etc. Keep Going!
