The current global map files (.bsp) can be found on mega upload (click here). And the mapcycle.txt is continuously updated in map releases.

Post here if you have any suggestions or feedback for the global maplist. This includes:
    • the addition of a map to the global maplist
    • the removal of a map from the global maplist
    • the global system
    Discussion is welcome here too.

Imo kz_walpurgisnacht is a weird map to be in the global mappool.

on the same level as walpurgisnacht...I never understood the necessity for longjumps_easy/hard to be their own maps. 5 minutes in hammer can make either one, and there is just nothing to them. I get that longjumping and jumpstats are kind of in their own category for kz, but having a whole map dedicated to forcing harder and harder longjumps is kind of pointless.

I'd like to take a bit of time to talk about shortcuts in maps. and why they shouldn't necessarily all be "fixed" or have their global's removed.

there seems to be these negative connotations around unintended shortcuts and it bugs me. some of the kz maps that ended up being the most fun are due to shortcuts that were not intended by the mapper! the map wasn't instantly dismissed and revised and instead was allowed to evolve.

i cannot stress enough how shortcuts don't always ruin a map but can sometimes transform the map instead.
sure if it skips the whole map, is stupidly easy or abuses swapping teams or disconnecting etc. then i'm all for it but if it there is a degree of skill involved it should be much more open to debate.

let's take the 1.6 map kz_ea_harbor. this is a great and popular beginner map from very early on in KZ.
eventually a few SCs got found and sure enough the route is completely different than intended yet it is still very fun to play.

Intended route on this map = easy
WR route on this map (many SCs including 2 perfs) = medium/hard

Please don't use reasoning such as:
"this SC does not fit with the flow/difficulty of the map therefore the map should be removed from globals"
"this SC skips a whole section therefore it should be removed from globals"

both beginners and advanced players can enjoy themselves at the same time.
This is very much NOT the case when beginners for example try to play a csgo map like kz_retribution.

i guess what i'm getting at here is make sure that you approach unintended shortcuts differently to the intended route of a map.

i noticed kz_j2s_cupblock_go in csgo has been removed from globals because theres a SC that requires a perf and skips a load of the map.
personally i had great fun taking the route on that map and i wouldn't want to run the map the usual way.

it's not as if the map maker was upset that his map wasn't being played the way he intended. if he was and wanted to adjust the map then fair enough. but the reality is someone has just lazily ported the map and the route isnt as intended as it was in 1.6 - but so what? is the route still fun? hell yeah it is - extremely satisfying to hit that shortcut!

what's that you say???? it requires perfs?? It's RNG???

why don't we just remove kz_catalyst from globals seeing as it the WR route requires 2 perfs and skips intended jumps? running that map is 'RNG' but this map has proven that you can still enjoy a map that requires perfs in it to complete.

if a short map (1-2min) had a 275 and 280 block WeirdJumps in it would you approve it?

    Just some food for thought...

    p.s.
if you are awesome enough and have 1.6 installed go join a server and nominate/rtv and play the map, then watch the WR demo or youtube clip after and you might just start to appreciate the beauty of unintended SCs and the impact they can have on a map.

seriously though shoutouts to kz_ea_harbor one of the greatest kz maps of all time.

    hi,

on many servers i cant make a globalrekord because of :

Global Records disabled. Reason: Filesize of the current map does not match with the stored global filesize. Please upload the latest workshop version on your server!
    • kz_spores_go
    • kz_computer

Global Records disabled. Reason: The current map is not approved by a kztimer map tester!
    • kz_again_v4
    • kz_faycefinal2
    • kz_numb
    • kz_orz_easy_1_kn
    • xc_cityscape

As many of you know (or hadn't noticed) kz_toonrun2_v2 was removed from the global map pool sometime in the last two weeks. After re-reading the global requirements for maps to be approved, I can't help but feel this was a mistake made by the map testing group.

kz_toonrun2_v2 features a unique experience for both new and old players alike containing many unique jumps, requiring a variety of jump strategies and techniques while still being able to be completed by the majority of new players.

Below is my comparison of the global map requirements against kz_toonrun2_v2

    Global Technical requirements
    1. Timer Buttons
      • Functional start and end timer
    2. KZTimer friendly
      • No comment needed
    3. Plugin friendly
      • No comment needed
    4. Optimized
      • No FPS issues
    Global Content Requirements
    1. Visual clarity
      • Jumps have clearly defined edges
      • No dark rooms
      • No annoying walls
      • No cock-blocking props in the way
    2. Limited Randomness
      • Very limited RNG (with the use of the pause function for moving blocks)
      • Only one minor SC requiring RNG (only a 7 second save at best)
    3. Port Adjustment
      • Not sure if this map is even a port
      • No weird jump lengths
      • No issues excluding trigger_push in the first room (still functional)
    4. Good Level Design
      • Flows smoothly
      • No major death jumps
      • Consistent difficulty
    Global Design Guidelines
    1. Length
      • Takes longer than 1 minute to run
      • Doesn't take six months to complete for new players
    2. Difficulty
      • Consistent difficulty
      • Only source of difficulty for new players are mechanics they are unfamiliar with
    3. Innovative Gameplay
      • Collection of unique jumps and mechanics
      • Unlike any other map (excluding textures)
      • One of the most innovative maps in terms of game-play that was run competitively
      • Why include this as a requirement or guideline when half of the globally approved maps all play similarly.
    4. Enjoyment
      • Fun
      • No glass floors
      • No annoying slants
      • Enjoyable to TP and PRO run
    5. Visual Appeal
      • Looks better than 40% of the map pool
      • Looks better than toonrun_final at the very least
    6. Obvious Intended Path
      • Fairly obvious intended path to follow (after initial run)
    7. Longjump Room
      • I'm not sure if the map has a LJ room
      • Flat ground provided at start of the map
While I support the global map approving team for doing a fine job most of the time, I would like some transparency for why this map was removed from the global pool.

This map was removed months ago but I can confirm that it is 10 times better than the shit show toonrun_final and that's coming from the guy with the record on it

    @MurrayAU

I'm actually not too sure why toonrun2 was removed either. It could have been removed by mistake, or maybe someone with global database access thought toonrun and toonrun2 were the same map. I'll look into it further. Thanks for posting

xc_cityscape was removed too? Wasn't that map recently used in the tournament?
