Yo dawgs, I wasn't able to figure this out by myself .. probably because it's all about personal preferences? As far as I've heard, you guys appreciate 1.6 ported maps for kzgo, but the question is: how do you like them? heavily modified by today's engine capabilities, or classic with just a lil' of adjustments? I always wanted to see classic oldschool maps under a whole new, better light, so I already started working on a map (one is finished already). Personally, the classic style brings me back to the old days (tho this may just be for 1.6 players), but I do appreciate 'heavily' modified ones too (even if sometimes it just kills the map). So, how do you like them? Here is something I've done for you to have a better look: --- Barely re-touched, doesn't look quite good, but it can be done alot better only just by working abit more on texturing and lightning (kz_watertemple is a good exemple of a decent port without much reconstruction) http://imgur.com/a/vjIVi --- Quite modified from the original version; it looks better, but may kill the feeling of the classic one (not always true) http://imgur.com/a/K5Imf I'd appreciate abit of feedback and who knows, maybe it'll help somebody in the future heh ps: classic doesn't mean a bad looking map, just bulky-er arhitecture, simple blocks, etc
As I don't care about 1.6 at all, I'd prefer a modified version as I will see it as just another new map release.
That's not a legit answer. If you don't like 1.6, then ofc you can take them as individual 'new' maps, but still would you like them to be at a higher lvl of design or you're ok with the oldschool classic 'look'? Both 'modified' and 'classic' = new map(s). Try to view things from multiple perspectives .. just a tip for life really
Are you talking about purely the looks? Cause then, even if you don't find it legitimate, I don't care. Just leaving my opinion.
I'd rather not see lowres pukeworthy textures and have tiny ass jumps with horrendous gameplay, if the map is worth porting with improved textures and readjusted block height/distances etc. then I'd prefer that
As someone who never played 1.6 kz, what exactly kills the map? The only thing comes to my mind is skips (tradeblock, beginnerblock, etc) that drastically change the way how the map is played
